Instructions:
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare baking dish: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cook ground beef: Brown the ground beef and onion in a large skillet until the meat is cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
- Layer ingredients:
- Layer the bottom of the baking dish with a layer of potatoes.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Top with a layer of ground beef mixture.
- Sprinkle with a layer of cheese.
- Repeat these layers two more times, ending with a layer of cheese.
- Make cheese sauce: In a bowl, combine the Cheddar cheese soup mix, evaporated milk, and milk. Mix well.
- Pour cheese sauce: Pour the cheese sauce over the top of the casserole.
- Bake: Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Broil: Remove the foil and broil for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.
- Serve: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.
