- 1/2 medium white onion, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, loosely packed (plus more for garnish, optional)
- 1-2 fresh jalapeños, stemmed and roughly chopped (remove seeds for less heat, optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
