Classic Southern Pea Salad

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 (15-oz) cans sweet peas, drained well
    (or 3 cups frozen peas, thawed)

  • ½ cup mayonnaise (Duke’s preferred in the South)

  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

  • ½ teaspoon sugar

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese, cubed or shredded

  • ⅓ cup red onion, finely diced

  • 4–6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

Optional Add-Ins (traditional variations):

  • 2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped

  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

  • A pinch of paprika or cayenne
