🍰 Instructions
- Preheat oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan or loaf tins. - Cream butter and sugar
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. - Add eggs and molasses
Mix in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses until smooth. - Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. - Mix wet and dry
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until combined. - Prepare baking soda mixture
Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water, then carefully stir this into the batter (it will be thin—this is normal). - Bake
Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
Bake for 45–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool and serve
Let cool before slicing. The texture will be soft, moist, and slightly sticky.
