Directions:
1. Pour boiling water over dates and stir in bicarbonate of soda.
2. Let stand 10 minutes.
3. Cream butter and sugar, then beat in eggs and vanilla.
4. Fold in date mixture, flour, cinnamon, salt, and walnuts.
5. Pour into lined loaf tin.
6. Bake at 170°C fan forced for 50 to 60 minutes.
To serve:
Slice and spread with butter for a moist, rich, classic date walnut loaf perfect for afternoon tea or a cosy homemade snack.
