Southern 4-ingredient brown sugar pork roast
1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
2. Place the pork shoulder roast on a large piece of aluminum foil in a roasting pan.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, salt, and black pepper.
4. Rub the sugar mixture all over the pork roast, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
5. Wrap the roast tightly with the foil, sealing it well to keep the moisture in.
6. Roast in the preheated oven for 5-6 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
7. Remove from oven and let it rest for a few minutes before unwrapping and serving.
Variations & Tips
For those who like a bit of heat, add a teaspoon of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the brown sugar mixture. You can also experiment with adding herbs like rosemary or thyme for an aromatic twist. For a different flavor profile, try using maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a subtle sweetness. If you prefer a more savory version, reduce the brown sugar and add minced garlic and onion powder to the rub.
