Silky Citrus Dessert with Creamy Lime Mousse

Instructions

1. Prepare the lime base

In a mixing bowl, combine the fresh lime juice, zest, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until smooth. The acidity of the lime will slightly thicken the condensed milk, forming a creamy base.

2. Whip the cream

In a chilled bowl, whip the cold heavy cream with a hand or stand mixer until soft peaks form. Add a pinch of salt and vanilla extract (if using). Continue whipping until medium peaks form – smooth and silky, not stiff.

3. Fold gently

Gradually fold the whipped cream into the lime-condensed milk mixture using a spatula. Use gentle, sweeping motions to keep the mousse light and airy. The texture should be smooth, pale yellow, and fluffy.

4. Chill to set

Spoon the mousse into ramekins, small bowls, or a large glass dish. Cover and refrigerate for 2–3 hours (or longer) until set. The mousse will firm up slightly but remain soft and creamy.

5. Garnish and serve

Just before serving, top with lime zest curls, crushed cookies, or a sprig of mint for a refreshing touch. Serve chilled, with a spoon – and a smile. It truly needs no accompaniment!

Notes & Variations

This mousse is a tropical take on classic citrus desserts. You can substitute lime with lemon, orange, or even passion fruit for different flavors.
For a South Asian twist, add a pinch of cardamom or saffron.
For a keto-friendly version, use unsweetened condensed milk and whipped coconut cream.
