How to prepare Potato Gratin Dauphinoise
Potato Gratin Dauphinoise is a traditional French dish that has become popular worldwide on its own. It’s a simple recipe, not often found elsewhere, but for a very creamy result, it’s best to follow it step by step.
To make a small potato gratin dauphinoise, first, cut the potatoes. Then, clean them in a pan without washing to avoid disturbing the starch.
Slice the potatoes into about 2-millimeter thick slices using a knife. Next, grease a suitable baking dish lightly with some butter and layer the potatoes inside.
Sprinkle a little crushed garlic along with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Then, add a layer of potatoes and repeat the process until all the ingredients are used.
Pour a bit of milk into the baking dish (there’s no need to pre-cook the potatoes) and preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F) until you see the potatoes start to brown.
Spread the cream over the potatoes and bake for about a minute longer until golden, gratinating them in the last few minutes. Delicious!
