Old-Fashioned Onion Patties

 How to Make Them

Step 1: Whip Up the Batter
In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the chopped onions to coat evenly, then pour in the milk. Mix until you get a thick, spoonable batter.

Step 2: Heat Your Skillet
Add oil to a skillet over medium heat—enough to coat the bottom with about ¼ inch depth.

Step 3: Drop and Sizzle
Scoop about ¼ cup of batter per patty into the hot oil. Gently flatten with the back of the spoon. Cook each side for 2–3 minutes until perfectly golden and crisp.

Step 4: Drain and Dig In
Transfer cooked patties to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up any excess oil. Serve warm with your go-to dipping sauce, or plate them up alongside burgers, breakfast dishes, or a cozy bowl of soup.

✨ Tip: Want a twist? Toss in some shredded cheese, minced chives, or a dash of smoked paprika to make them truly your own.
