Mom’s Ginger Crisps Cookies
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in the egg, then stir in water and molasses.
5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the molasses mixture, mixing well.
6. Shape dough into walnut-sized balls and roll each in the additional granulated sugar.
7. Place cookies 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are firm but centers are slightly soft.
9. Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
