For the Bolognese sauce:

500 g mixed ground meat (or just beef for a more classic version)

1 onion, finely chopped

400 g canned tomatoes (or puréed)

A pinch of sugar (to balance the acidity) 
For the béchamel sauce:

50 g butter 
- 
3 tbsp flour 
- 
700 ml fresh milk

A pinch of nutmeg

Salt and white pepper to taste

100 g grated cheese or Parmesan (optional – for extra creaminess) 
For assembling:
- 
9–12 lasagna sheets (depending on the size of your baking dish) 
- 
200–250 g grated cheese/mozzarella for topping
