Method
1. Make the Dough
Combine flour, warm milk, egg, salt, yeast, butter, and sugar in a bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms. Adjust milk as needed.
2. Knead
Knead dough for 10–15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. First Rise
Place dough in a dish, cover, and let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the Doughnuts
Roll dough to desired thickness. Use a doughnut cutter for classic shapes, or shape into strips for cream doughnuts or balls for jam doughnuts.
5. Second Rise
Let shaped doughnuts rise 1–2 hours until puffed.
6. Fry
Heat oil to medium-high. Fry doughnuts until golden brown on both sides. Avoid low heat to prevent greasiness.
7. Cool
Remove doughnuts and let cool slightly before decorating or filling.
