Homemade Doughnuts

Method

1. Make the Dough

Combine flour, warm milk, egg, salt, yeast, butter, and sugar in a bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms. Adjust milk as needed.

2. Knead

Knead dough for 10–15 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First Rise

Place dough in a dish, cover, and let rise for 2 hours or until doubled in size.

4. Shape the Doughnuts

Roll dough to desired thickness. Use a doughnut cutter for classic shapes, or shape into strips for cream doughnuts or balls for jam doughnuts.

5. Second Rise

Let shaped doughnuts rise 1–2 hours until puffed.

6. Fry

Heat oil to medium-high. Fry doughnuts until golden brown on both sides. Avoid low heat to prevent greasiness.

7. Cool

Remove doughnuts and let cool slightly before decorating or filling.
