Homemade Caramel Sauce

Instructions & Methods

Step 1: Melt the Butter

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir gently to prevent browning.

Step 2: Add Sugar & Combine

  1. Add the brown sugar and salt to the melted butter.
  2. Stir continuously for 2–3 minutes until the sugar softens and combines with the butter into a smooth paste.

Step 3: Add Cream Slowly

  1. Reduce the heat slightly. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while whisking constantly.
  2. The mixture will bubble vigorously—this is normal. Keep stirring until fully combined and smooth.

Step 4: Simmer & Thicken

  1. Allow the caramel to simmer gently for 3–5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cools but should remain pourable.

Step 5: Flavor & Finish

  1. Remove the pan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract for a fragrant finish.
  2. Taste and adjust with a pinch more salt if desired.

Step 6: Cool & Store

  1. Let the caramel cool for 10–15 minutes before using.
  2. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Reheat gently before use.
