German Tart that Melts in the Mouth

Instructions:

Prepare the dough:

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add the cold butter cut into pieces and work with your hands or a mixer until the mixture has a sandy texture.

  3. Add the egg and mix until a smooth dough forms. If it’s too dry, you can add a little cold water.

  4. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the filling:

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the apples with the sugar, cinnamon, flour, lemon juice, and zest. Let it rest while you prepare the dough.

Assemble the tart:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and place it in a buttered tart pan.

  3. Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough base.

Prepare the topping:

  1. In a bowl, mix the melted butter, sugar, flour, and ground almonds (if using) until a crumbly dough forms.

  2. Sprinkle the mixture over the apple filling.

Bake:

  1. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.

Cool and serve:

  1. Let the tart cool before serving. It can be served with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
