Ingredients
For the Cake (Makes 2 9-inch layers)
- 2 ½ cups (280g) cake flour, sifted
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract (optional, but lovely)
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature
- 6 large egg whites (180g), room temperature
For the Frosting (Simple White Buttercream)
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
